Description:
Confluence Cloud currently sends Slack notifications to the original creator of the page when those pages are edited, even after the ownership has been transferred. This occurs despite the creator not watching the page. This behavior causes unnecessary notifications for users who are no longer responsible for the content, leading to potential confusion and notification fatigue.
To address this, we propose the following enhancements to Confluence Cloud's Slack App notification system:
- Decouple Creator Notifications from Ownership: Implement a setting that allows users to disable notifications for pages they have created but no longer own or watch. This will prevent creators from receiving updates for pages they are no longer involved with unless they choose to watch them.
- Granular Notification Controls: Provide users with more granular control over their notification preferences, allowing them to specify whether they want to receive notifications for page edits based on their role (creator, current owner, watcher).
Workaround:
Until these features are implemented, users can manage their Slack notifications
by using the /confluence notify command in Slack to adjust their notification settings. Specifically, they can disable notifications for the "Someone edits your page" event. This prevents them from receiving unwanted notifications for pages they have created.
However, this workaround also means they won't receive these notifications for pages they still own and wish to monitor, so it requires careful consideration of their notification preferences.
