Update Documentation to Include 32-bit Browser Limitations and 64-bit Browser Requirements for Optimal Performance

The current documentation for browser support and settings (Browser Support and Settings for Whiteboards) and Atlassian Cloud products (Supported Browsers for Atlassian Cloud Products) does not include information about the performance limitations of 32-bit browsers when using memory-intensive features as for instance, Whiteboards.

This absence of information can lead to confusion for users, especially as resource-heavy features like Whiteboards may not function properly—or at all—on 32-bit browsers.

Using an Whiteboard sample to show the limitation:

      1. Whiteboards may fail to load or cause "out of memory" errors.
      2. Users will not be able to create new Whiteboards in 32-bit browsers due to memory constraints.
      3. Enabling performance-enhancing settings like "Use hardware acceleration when available" is not sufficient in 32-bit browsers, as their memory usage is inherently capped.

To improve clarity and ensure customers are fully informed, the documentation should:

      1. Explicitly mention that 64-bit browsers are required for optimal performance and to avoid memory-related issues with Whiteboards and other resource-intensive features.
      2. Clarify that some features, such as creating Whiteboards, may not be supported at all in 32-bit browsers.
      3. Recommend using the latest stable version of 64-bit browsers, such as Chrome, Edge, or Firefox, for the best experience.
      4. Provide a brief explanation of why 32-bit browsers are limited in functionality (e.g., memory constraints inherent to the architecture).

Here’s an example of how the updated documentation could look for Chrome:

For Chrome (64-bit required for optimal performance):

      1. Launch Chrome (64-bit version only).
      2. Navigate to the Settings page (select the three dots icon in the top-right corner of your browser).
      3. Select the System tab.
      4. Toggle ‘Use hardware acceleration when available’ on.

      Important Notes:

      • To avoid performance issues and memory-related errors, use the 64-bit version of Chrome. Whiteboards and other memory-intensive features may not function properly—or at all—in 32-bit versions of the browser.
      • Users on 32-bit browsers will not be able to create new Whiteboards due to technical limitations.
