Problem Definition
As of today, the default Confluence Cloud behavior is to open links to external sites (such as https://www.atlassian.com) in a new tab, and links to the same Confluence site (such as https://charlie.atlassian.com/wiki) in the same tab.
Currently there is no way to mark specific same-site links to open in a new tab.
Suggested Solution
Allow for same-site links to be opened in a new tab, either by using a UI checkbox or appending a value to the URL.
Workaround
Use browser-specific shortcuts to open links in a new tab.
For Chrome:
- Right-click and choose "Open Link in New Tab"
- Hold Command (for MacOS) or Ctrl (Windows and Linux) and click the link
