Problem Definition
As mentioned on Link Jira issues to Confluence pages automatically:
1. Automatic links
Whenever a Jira issue is mentioned in a Confluence page using the Jira Issue Macro, Jira will automatically create an issue link to that page for you. Specs to issues, knowledge base articles to support tickets, project outlines to tasks – you can easily access those pages, straight from Jira.
This is true when both Confluence and Jira are on the same domain, but it does not happen automatically if Confluence and Jira are on different domains.
Example:
| Confluence | Jira | Automatic Reciprocal Link | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scenario 1 | domain-a.atlassian.net/wiki | domain-a.atlassian.net/ | |
| Scenario 2 | domain-a.atlassian.net/wiki | domain-b.atlassian.net/ | |
As Customers may have access to multiple domains, having this ability would allow the creation of reciprocal links automatically without any further action needed.
Suggested Solution
Allow for reciprocal links to be created in Jira when mentioned on a Confluence page that is on a different domain.
Workaround
It is possible to create an OAuth Access Token that will allow for reciprocal links to be created even if Confluence and Jira are on different domains.
Steps:
- Navigate to Confluence in Domain A
- Create a new page
- Add a Jira Legacy macro to the page
- Under 'Choose server', change the Jira server from 'System Jira' to Domain B's Jira server
- Click on 'Login & Approve'
- Click on 'Approve'
PS: the same process is required for other Jira sites (such as Domain C, Domain D etc.)
PS2: the process only needs to be done once, but it is needed on a per-user basis
