Issue Summary
Users have reported issues with Microsoft Editor in MS Edge and Google Chrome where spelling and grammar correction suggestions either do not apply correctly or worsen the text. This issue occurs when using Microsoft Editor, but does not affect the text when switching to the browser's built-in spell-check settings. The problem has started recently.
Steps to Reproduce
- Using MS Edge or Google Chrome:
Ensure that the Microsoft Editor extension is installed and enabled.
Open Confluence and navigate to an editable text field or document.
- Trigger a Spell Check:
Type a word with a spelling or grammatical error (e.g., "tyep").
- Observe the Suggestions:
Microsoft Editor should provide spelling/grammar suggestions for the error.
- Attempt to Apply the Correction:
Click on the misspelled word to view the suggested corrections.
Select one of the suggestions from the correction box. - Check the Result:
Observe whether the correction is applied correctly, or if the text is altered incorrectly (e.g., resulting in "ttyep" or "ttype").
Note if the correction box disappears without applying any changes. - Switch to Basic Spelling Settings:
Change the browser's spell-check settings to the 'Basic' or built-in spell-check feature. - Repeat the Above Steps:
Observe that the correction functions normally with basic spelling settings.
Expected Results
The correction box should disappear after selecting a suggestion, and the chosen correction should be correctly applied to the misspelled word.
Actual Results
When using Microsoft Editor, selecting a suggested correction may result in:
- Incorrect changes such as "ttyep" or "ttype".
- No change being applied to the text at all.
- The correction box disappearing without applying the chosen suggestion.
Workaround
Currently there is no known workaround for this behavior. A workaround will be added here when available
