Direct Page Creation from Templates with Parent Page Specification in Confluence Cloud

    • Our product teams collect and evaluate feedback from a number of different sources. To learn more about how we use customer feedback in the planning process, check out our new feature policy.

      Background:

Transitioning from Confluence Data Center to Cloud has resulted in the loss of a crucial feature: the ability to create pages from templates via direct URLs across different spaces, with the capability to specify parent pages. This functionality was pivotal for seamless cross-space documentation and collaboration.

      Problem:

Confluence Cloud users cannot directly create pages from templates stored in different spaces nor specify parent pages for these new pages through direct URLs. The current workaround using the "Create from Template" macro lacks the ability to select a parent page, leading to inefficient manual reorganization post-creation.

      Request:

      1. Enable Direct URL Template Page Creation Across Spaces: Allow the creation of pages from templates via direct URLs, including across different spaces.
      1. Allow Parent Page Specification: Introduce functionality to specify parent pages when creating a new page from a template, either directly in the URL or through an enhanced macro.

      Impact:

Implementing these features would streamline documentation workflows, facilitate better cross-space collaboration, and reduce manual intervention, significantly improving productivity and user satisfaction in Confluence Cloud.

      Conclusion:

By addressing this functionality gap, Atlassian would greatly enhance the Confluence Cloud experience, aligning it more closely with the flexibility and efficiency that users enjoyed in Confluence Data Center. This enhancement would not only aid in retaining existing users during their transition to Cloud but also position Confluence as a more attractive and capable platform for new and potential users, emphasizing its adaptability and commitment to user needs.

This is essential to support several workflows and processes we have designed that rely on Confluence templates.  The process owner creates and maintains a template in their space, but others from different departments need to use that template and create the resulting page in their space so it lives with related work artifacts.

Seems related to this enhancement to Create a Page from Template URL

This would feature would be quite helpful for custom templates that need to be piloted/released in rings before getting promoted to becoming a global template for the entire organization (if they ever do).

I also request the Allow Parent Page Specification for the create from template macro referenced here

When training end users on how to follow a process, it would be helpful to use this macro to ensure they use the correct template, and then that the end page is stored in the correct location instead of just in the space randomly.

As Confluence is a document management tool, being able to manage where documents are stored as part of document creations would be appreciated.

            Thank you.
