Using the contributors macro in large confluence spaces with over 250 pages causes inaccurate contribution tracking

Details

    Description

      Problem

The 'Contributors Macro' is failing to accurately reflect team members' contributions on the Confluence Cloud space when the space has more than 250 pages.

      • Issues observed include missing contributions, incorrect timestamps, and inconsistent data representation between the Contributors Macro and the Contributors Summary Macro.

      Environment

      • Confluence Cloud

      Steps to Reproduce

Considering a large space with more than 250 pages:

      1. Insert the Contributors Macro on any Confluence page.
      2. Configure the Macro to display contributions for a specific timeframe within a space or across specific pages (with more than 250 results).
      3. Observe that certain contributions are either missing or inaccurately displayed when trying to collect a large amount of data.

      Expected Results

The Contributors Macro is expected to accurately display all user contributions, including page edits and creations, with the correct timestamps.

      Actual Results

      • Contributions by some users, despite editing or creating pages within the specified timeframe, are not displayed in the Contributors Macro.
      • Some users show inconsistent results between the Contributors Macro and the Contributors Summary Macro, with recent edits missing from both.
      • Specific examples include users who have edited or created pages but don't appear in the macro output as expected.

      Workaround

Currently, there is no effective workaround for this issue due to its technical nature involving data retrieval and presentation.

An alternative, if viable, would be to reduce the number of results (making it more granular), but it depends on each use case.

      Notes

      • The Contributors Macro is limited to processing a maximum of 250 pages at a time with analytics, which is problematic for large instances.

Relevant related bug reports have been identified, indicating that this is a known limitation with varying symptoms:

      • CONFCLOUD-73597: Using pages with similar names makes the Contributors Summary erroneously display them
      • CONFCLOUD-77985: Contributors macro returns inaccurate results and messages
      • CONFCLOUD-76198: Mismatched data between Contributors Macro and Recently Updated Macro

This problem has been recognized during internal reviews and requires resolution to ensure the Contributors Macro accurately represents user contributions.
