Problem
Currently, Confluence Cloud doesn't provide an option to add Alt text to a header image on a Confluence page. Alt text can only be added to images within the body of the page.
Documentation:
- Format your page
- Edit alt text — Add supplemental text accompanying an image or video for all users. Alt text can help add more context and meaning to the image or video and can be very effective in assisting people of all types to understand the image or video better.
- Displayable file types
- Add alt text, which is used by screen readers and when the image can't be displayed (go to Properties > Title).
Suggested Solution
Modify the Confluence page editing features to include an option for adding Alt text to header images. This could be implemented in a similar way to how Alt text is added to images in the body of the page.
Why This Is Important
The addition of Alt text to header images would improve accessibility for visually impaired users who rely on screen readers to understand the content.
Workaround
For now, a potential workaround could be to add a caption to the image or include a descriptive title or subtitle in the header that can serve a similar purpose as Alt text. However, this does not completely replace the benefits of having actual Alt text for the header image.
