Issue Summary
- Deleting a space with many pages (more than 4.500) takes more than 4 hours to finish. This time grows exponentially with the number of pages in a space. A space with 7500+ pages may take more than a day to delete.
Steps to Reproduce
- Create a Confluence space
- Add more than 4.500 pages on the space (they can be empty pages)
- Delete the space
Expected Results
- The space will be deleted in a few minutes since the pages don't have attachments or content.
Actual Results
- The delete takes more than 4 hours to finish

- Currently there is no known workaround for this behavior. A workaround will be added here when available

[CONFCLOUD-72589] Deleting a space with many pages takes more than 4 hours to finish
I tried to delete a space from my Confluence cloud. At first it looks fine but the progress bar keeps on increasing and decreasing. After about a hour, the page looks like frozen. There is no update for the progress.
And I can still find the space from the trashed space. I guess the deleting is still ongoing.
I don't know if I can refresh the page or not. This is really annoying.
As a suggestion, it would be good to provide a refresh button similar to Jira bulk action. This can help us to know the progress.
We have just released a fix to this to make space deletion on average 60x faster. To put that in perspective, if before it took XX hours to complete, it should now only take XX minutes. In the last couple days, the longest space delete took ~16 minutes, and vast majority are taking half a second.

Hi folks! My name is Nathan, I am a Software Engineer on the Confluence DISCO team, the owners of Space Deletion.
We have been working to resolve this bug and have determined that a large scale architectural fix is needed. This fix is on the roadmap for our next quarter and is one of the highest priorities for our team. Because of this, the SLO has extended to the EOQ date (March 31). Thank you all for your patience as we work to resolve this issue, and I look forward to delivering good news to y’all in the new year.
Note: CONFCLOUD-5974 is not a solution here, as it allows only deleting 100 pages, without ability to actually select only 100.
Use case: You have space with many articles. But you cannot bulk remove pages because of CONFCLOUD-5974
Fine, you try to remove whole space, and then you hit this :/
Experienced that the process fails after roughly six hours. Tried the action twice, the percentage would get to 67 and then the time remaining would grow as the time elapsed until failure after 6 hours.
