Description
Normally when viewing a page, if that page receives an update and the shown page is stale, a “New version published” flag is shown with the option to reload the content. However, if the page was edited by the viewer’s account, the stale content flag is not shown and the user may be viewing a stale page if they had multiple tabs/windows on the page.
The same behaviour is observed when an app calls an API with user impersonation, but now the problem is exaggerated because the app is triggering the update and consequently the user may be completely unaware of the change, or at least details of the change.
It is suggested that this policy of not notifying the user who made the change be reviewed with two potential solutions:
- Notify the user even when they made the update; OR
- Extend the API so that apps have the option of controlling if the notification to the impersonated user should occur.
