      Problem

It's not possible to create footnotes in Confluence.

      Suggestion

Define a citation at the bottom of the page with a reference tag like:
\ab01 - Title of the citation.

Then in the editor if would reference with some tag like \ref

      {ab01}

Once the page is published, I would be create to see the reference in the text show up at [1] and the reference list at the bottom of the page like
      [1] ....
      [2].....

I realise this is a late reply but an even simpler approach I use is:

            • A /divider a the bottom of the page
            • an /anchor for each footnote, normally I name them [n]
            • The footnote text (for ease I always start it with the anchor name), e.g. [1] The first footnote
            • A link where you want the footnote reference to be with the link URL being #[n] and the text being [n]
            • I format the link text as superscript.

If you dont want number footnotes, e.g. citations, just use different anchor names or jus different link text and footnote text

I'm keen for this too. Seems like a fairly straightforward ask, and a table-stakes feature for any documentation system.

The ability to add footnotes is a very basic need for a documentation tool. Please consider having this as a native feature soon.

            Hi,

I think we can provide a solution here.

Content Formatting Macros for Confluence Cloud has recently just launched with a set of very useful macros that allows users to create better, well structured and more engaging content in Confluence. A Footnote macro is included and should be able to do exactly what you need.

I've written a blog that gives more information on the product and the capabilities of the individual macros, you can check it out here

You can also visit the MPAC listing directly to start a free trial

            Thanks

            Jimi

Sounds okay for me. The simpler the better.
