Update as of 16 Nov 2022

Hi all, Ethan here from the Atlassian Platform Editor team, responsible for the rich-text editor supporting Confluence, and the wider suite of Atlassian cloud products. I wanted to share that though there are no longer dedicated buttons for these operations, copying, cutting, and pasting rows/columns, is all still very much possible in the 'new' editor. See the attached recording to see how this can be achieved using the keyboard shortcuts (which will vary depending on your operating system):

      • Copy: Cmd/Ctrl + C
      • Cut: Cmd/Ctrl + X
      • Paste: Cmd/Ctrl + V

If you are still encountering issues with copying, cutting, and/or pasting table rows and columns, my team and I would be very keen to better understand opportunities to improve this experience for you. Problem Definition

In the old editor, while editing a table, the users were able to copy/cut/paste rows and columns by clicking on the buttons available.

In the new editor, there are no buttons for these actions and the only way to copy/cut/paste the rows and columns is by using keyboard shortcuts.

Please see the attachments for reference: the screenshot for the new editor and the recording for the old editor.

      Suggested Solution

Add the same buttons/functionality to the new editor.

      Workaround

Use the cmd/ctrl+c/x/v commands from keyboard.

we also just migrated to the 'new' editor and it is sad to see that the issue with the table editing changes has been an issue for years. Now to add or remove a column or row it is multiple clicks, lost the ability to copy and paste rows/columns, etc. I can't believe such basic capabilities were removed. We use tables all of the time to organize our documentation. These changes to the new editor is terrible and makes it so much more challenging on a day to day basis. Really disappointed in making a very useful and easy to use activity into a painful process.

There has been a steady dumbing down and downgrading of table functionality for many years now.   Variable width, nested tables, text alongside, variable row height, the list is endless.  And the new editor is even worse.   I've had numerous exchanges with Confluence people about this, but never once have I received anything even remotely like honesty or sense from them.

The edit, copy, paste functions for tables are really useful, since we are working with tables a lot. With the new editor this is far more laborious. This is all the more astonishing, since Atlassian solutions are usually very easy to use. So please improve the new editor, thx.

Need these back - there's no way to quickly copy a table from old editor and paste it into new editor. I've tried all suggestions (start copying from above the old table, pasting in excel first, etc) - none of these workarounds actually work.

We migrated to the cloud and I really miss the edit functions for tables. As we use these quite often the new editor is really not very userfriendly as it makes it really hard to edit tables when you were only on click away in the legacy editor. PLEASE help us users and improve the new editor!

It's as if Atlassian closely monitored the way I used tables, and removed or made more difficult every feature I depended on.

Overall suggestion : stop trying to bring the new editor up to the standard of the legacy one.  Just scrap it and keep developing the legacy one.  Don't reinforce a mistake.

I use tables a lot in my documentation and have had my workflow impacted by the loss of copy/cut/paste rows. It would be wonderful to have this ability restored.

Atlassian needs built-in application support for copy/paste functions for rows, columns, and entire tables in Confluence Cloud.  Without being able to effectively copy tables, Stiltsoft table filter macros, which are very handy, become incredibly cumbersome to retrofit to existing pages with tables.  CTRL+C/V is not a viable work-around as it does not effectively capture every aspect of the source table/row/column.  This limit to table functionality is a real disappointment for me as I had been promoting using Confluence for more and more of my organization's needs.  But seeing as how so much of that revolves around building and filtering data held in tables, I am tempted to go back to shared spreadsheets.

Really need the ability to copy/paste columns and rows, together with formatting.  The old toolbar wasn't so bad

I now realise I just have to click and drag to select a column/row before using Ctrl+C so that's fine for me.

Also - it's rather ridiculous we can't insert a new row above or below? It will always insert the row below?

I agree that Atlassian must restore the functionality of being able to copy + paste entire rows.
We don't necessarily need to have the tables toolbar at the top of the page. But there must be a way to copy + paste with simply a click or two (perhaps a 'duplicate row' function?).
This should also apply for columns.

When trying to paste into a table that has a numbered column - it replaces the next numbering sequence with the image - not where the insertion point has been indicated.

Workaround has been to paste it outside the table, then move it to the right position.

I'd like to add my support and vote for this ticket.

Copying, cutting and pasting table rows and columns is a vital feature. The workaround to copy/paste via STRG+C/V etc. don't do the job.

Atlassian, please reinstate the features from the old editor - otherwise, this 'new experience' is really rather useless

+1 on the comment above. The only way I can see to copy and paste for now is by using the browser's copy/paste, which is going to be a disaster for our more complex tables, and may also vary by the browser being used. Most of what we work with in Confluence are tables. This isn't a viable solution in the long run.

We rely heavily on the ability to copy and paste entire table rows and columns, due to the nature of our product documentation. Without these features restored, maintaining large, complex tables is going to be miserable.

Thank you so much for posting this ticket. The rationale for changing tables experience in the new editor, among other things, is that over the years tables have been a large source of pain for our customers. One of the biggest feedback points was having to go up and down from the table to the menu, which is why the new tables allow you to maintain all actions in context of the table itself. Please keep the feedback coming!

            Thanks,
