I was expected this to be the behaviour of the "Calendars" button in the global header.
As I was creating this feedback ticket, my original summary was going to be: "Why can't I see the Confluence Development team calendar when I click on 'Calendars' in the header?"
It wasn't until I went back to Sherif's blog post to access the calendar that I saw the link to add it to my calendar list.
There also doesn't seem to be a way to add the calendar to "my calendar list" while viewing a page where the calendar is embedded (did I miss it?) - although I didn't even think to look for this when I was originally wondering how to get the calendar to display on
