Description
NOTE: This suggestion is for Confluence Cloud. Using Confluence Server? See the corresponding suggestion.
In Confluence 5.7 we had the "Notify Watchers" checkbox always on by default. In Confluence 5.8 we had the "Notify Watchers" last setting remembered on any page. In Confluence 5.9 we have the "Notify Watchers" last setting remembered on the same page.
I think it's clear by now that no single notification default strategy is going to be acceptable to everyone. In my company we like notifications and don't want to make it too easy for people to forget to send them. In other companies they want fewer emails and prefer to nudge people towards not sending them unless they're needed.
Please implement configuration options at the site and space and possibly also page level to control the default behaviour of the Notify Watchers checkbox. Options could be:
- always on
- always off
- remember user's last setting within the site
- remember user's last setting within the space
- remember user's last setting for the page
Let's give up on finding a single strategy that works for everyone - there is no such thing. You will make a lot more people happy by providing a way to accommodate differing requirements.
