      Problem Definition

Confluence does not provide a functionality which could allow attachments and child pages to inherit labels from its parent page. It could be useful for building RSS and Recently-Updated feeds.
Currently only one Marketplace plugin provides solution for labels inherited during the page creation but it does not maintain them: if the page is moved the labels will not be updated accordingly.

      Suggested Solution

      1. It would be good to expand the present labeling system with:
        • Parent-child relations
        • Synonyms
        • Inheritance
      2. And to develop a toolkit to maintain the existing labels.

      Workaround

      1. Currently the only possible way to inherit the labels from the parent page is to utilize the existing paid add-on from the Marketplace: Labeler - not available at this point.
      2. You can create a page template with in a space add label to it. Use this template to create a new page and that will have label added to it.
      3. Other that that I could explore an app where in child pages will inherit the labels from its parent pages and more.

Adding it manually is such a long and tedious process though. I used to be able to copy and paste from one to the next, but now it needs to be indivdually added.
The child inheritence for a page as above would be a godsend and would save everyone a lot of time when creating pages underneath a parent.

            That's a good question.

From my perspective that is something to unfold the power of labels and the possibility to structure content with those even more. Absolutely essential. I can just guess that most have adopted the current situation, do it manually or use workarounds. So they not really feel the need for it.

How is this not a thing yet?

Allowing pages to inherit labels from their parents would improve the discoverability of pages a lot. Managing labels manually is basically destined to fail. Inheritance of labels would help structuring page trees and improve the search results.

Hi, there is new add-on which could be used as workaround. It is called Magic Labels for Confluence. The description of the ticket was updated also.

However, I agree that inherited labels would be enormous important to unfold the power of labels and the structure they provide for your content  with the reports (task, decisions, pages etc.)  that are based on them. Right now users are forced to add labels manually every time. This calls for mistakes and sounds not effective.

The mentioned add-on in Marketplace has been archived. So there is no workaround anymore...
