NOTE: This suggestion is for Confluence Cloud. Using Confluence Server? See the corresponding suggestion.

As part of our work to make Confluence simpler and easier to use, we've decided to remove the Status Updates feature. This includes the ability to:

      • update your status
      • see other people's status via their profile or the User Status List macro.

Our research tells us that this feature isn't very widely used, and we believe HipChat gives your team much better ways to share their status.

Any experiences with workarounds, user macros or plugins to repplace this functionality?

Would be great to know what you've done to replace the status updates (besides hipchat, which is not an option for us!)

For us (along with a lot of large companies out there), HipChat is forbidden because the lawyers and security guys don't want another chat system that they have to monitor. I understand wanting to cross-sell, but pushing HipChat is a pain.

This feature is a key feature of Confluence in our environment. In our cas, there will no further upgrade of Confluence be don if this feature is removed. Even if we've got HipChat for free this is not an option for us, since we use a different chat software.

Just noticed this in the End of Support Announcements. I am very disappointed - we rely on this feature for our users to quickly communicate notable things company wide. Please reconsider.

Pls provide integration with Microsoft Lync, there must be lots of your customers who have this in use.

We have created a microblogging add-on for Confluence: https://marketplace.atlassian.com/plugins/net.seibertmedia.plugin.confluence.microblog - It tries to address the issue, that status updates in twitter or facebook address. Maybe that is useful for some of you.

This is a really poor idea that we find highly disappointing.

The removal of this very useful feature is unnecessary and degrades the value of Confluence to our organisation.

No way we are ever going to use an inhouse HipChat-Server for 12.000 $ / year. So why cutting off features that are working since years & where removing will lead to user questions, unless you want to sell Jira Service Desk for another 9.000 $.
