Description
NOTE: This suggestion is for Confluence Cloud. Using Confluence Server? See the corresponding suggestion.
There are many use cases that emoticons are not welcome and get it rendered to then press CTRL + Z to revert it to the plain text is not a feasible workaround in most of the cases.
A simple option to disable emoticons systemwide or for a single space is really necessary.
e.g:
We are a law firm and have many instances of clause referrals using ( ! ) which gets converted to the information emoticon "". Asking each of our 3000 users to change their autoformatting settings is not at all practical, neither it is to press CTRL + Z after the emoticon gets rendered.
Another example would be when copying a document's content which contains a lot of ( ! ). Once I save the content in a Confluence page, all signs would be rendered as emoticons and I would need to delete each one, write it again and press CTRL + Z to get it in plain text. That's not feasible.
Code and Noformat macros are not a good workaround either since we'd not have format on the text.
