The Roadmap Planner Macro bundled into Confluence 5.7 is great, but it could be truly amazing if it were able to pull the data for lanes, bars, and markers from an external source.

At minimum, it would be useful to use a linked JIRA instance as a source for roadmap data, but it would be extremely valuable if this were pluggable in some way so that teams could implement alternative data sources (such as other databases that provide planning information).

Ideally, this capability would allow a single query to provide all the required data (i.e. parsing attributes from the query, mapped to "Lane", "Start Date", "End Date"), but it might also be useful to define separate queries for each lane, allowing for planning data to be amalgamated onto a roadmap. Markers might always require a separate query as well.

An enhancement like this would provide an amazing visualization capability for planning purposes, rather than requiring someone to manually propagate changes in a planning database to the roadmap diagram.
