      Atlassian Update: 24 February 2022

      Hi all,

Thank you for your continued feedback and support on this issue. Last year our team explored ways to solve this problem and enable customers to view more inline comments at once. After much iteration we weren't able to land a solution that we felt struck the right balance between helping customers navigate among inline comments and allowing them to quickly and easily interact and engage with inline comments.

For now, we've paused work on this specific initiative, but we do have plans to continue to iterate on the inline comments experience in the coming 12-18 months to make it more usable and performant.

      Best,
      Daniel Ayele
      Product Manager, Confluence

I would like a way to view all inline comments at once. This is mostly related to how I like to consume content and is a personal thing, but I think it's worth raising anyway (I doubt I'm alone).

I read a page and then scroll down through the comments. I don't read every one, but rather a few things will prompt me to read a particular comment:

      1. The name of the commenter - if it's someone with interesting opinions I'm more likely to want to read what they have to say
      2. The ones with lots of replies
      3. The ones that start with interesting phrases like 'I disagree', 'let me play devils advocate' etc
      4. The long comments where people are obviously passionate about the topic
      5. Ones that have a standout sentence in bold or a headline or something eye catching
      6. Inline comments that are unresolved

With inline comments, I can't immediately see if a little yellow bar has 80 passionate comments underneath it, and unless I click on every highlighted word, I'm likely to miss out on important discussion. I feel like I can scan down a page and get a vibe from the page comments too, which I'm now missing with inline comments.

For me, I feel like it's taken away some of the inclusive and easy nature of collaboration that Confluence is amazing for.

      Ideas:

      1. Have a way as the author to change an inline comment into a page comment, and start it with the highlighted text in a quote. That way if something becomes a vital discussion it can be moved to a place it will be more visible to casual page viewers
      2. Have a 'view all' button that does the above for all inline comments for the current viewer only
      3. Have a user setting that does the above for all pages by default (ie disable inline comments per user)
      4. Display a count of comments in the top right of the highlighted text so it's easy to see where the discussion is

[CONFCLOUD-34510] View all inline comments at once

As more pages are added to a space and people exchange ideas in the form of inline comments, it becomes really difficult to find inline comments page by page. I agree that this will be a very useful feature.

there should be a way to find all open inline comments.
In our confluence space I see many open comments without response. So would be great to have an overview and no need to click in each and every page to finde those comments.

Having a list with the following information:

link to the page which contains a comment, the date of the last comment, the name of reporter of an comment

It's frustrating that such a nice feature as inline comments cannot be used at its full potential to track unresolved comments.

Thanks - I appreciate the update even if it isn't the one I was hoping to read!  And of course I remain optimistic that this may still be get raised in priority, given that the current state is also definitely not, in my opinion at least, the right balance between helping customers navigate among inline comments and allowing them to quickly and easily interact and engage with inline comments.   I do see this as a fairly fundamental feature of a collaboration platform.  I have used similar features on other platforms, eg Google docs, and,  while they are not perfect, I have found most are nearer this balance.   Thanks again though for updating this issue so promptly - it is great to have that level of responsiveness from a service provider.

@DA Just wondering if there have been any updates - the comment above from Daniel Ayele was suggesting there would be more details around the middle of last year.  Anyone know if there has been progress?

I would like to suggest that you include an option (like, say, a checkbox) to include ALL comments – INCLUDING resolved comments.  Right now, I'm working on a project where I'm using comments for my own notes as I go along, and the inability to readily see what I've already resolved is frustrating.

s.schnitzer thank you for your comment. My name is Daniel Ayele and I'm a Product Manager on the Confluence team. I'm happy to share that we have heard you loud and clear and do have plans in the works to address this and make it easier for customers to see all comments and collaborate more effectively. Stay tuned for more details in the next few months

This is an important feature for collaboration.

I'm fairly new to Confluence, and after creating my first large documentation space, sent it for review about a month ago. Several team members commented throughout the space.

I now need to review all those comments, and couldn't figure out where the feature for reviewing comments is. I find the list of resolved comments, which doesn't serve much purpose. But the open ones?

Feeling silly for not finding such an obvious feature, I start searching. Cause inline comments are basically useless if you have to go page by page searching every line for a little yellow highlight in case there are comments on that page, right?

What I find are something like 6 issues with a combined total of over 1000 votes asking for this feature for the last 5 years, and the only response from the Confluence team is this comment from a year ago promising changes.

Does anyone know if there have been any? Am I missing something, or has this been ignored and the only solution is paying for another third-party app?

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on how we can improve the Confluence commenting experience.

I'm happy to share that we are making a number of changes in the next 12 months to improve how comments work in Confluence and make them simple, familiar and delightful. Specifically, we are solving the following:
            1. Improving the discoverability and accessibility of comments
            2. Making comments consistent across the edit and render views of pages
            3. Making the commenting experience consistent across web and mobile platforms

We'll keep you updated on progress and timelines for when the above issues are resolved.

            Best,

            Hi,

if you do really need verification on this, try to ask all the people that see the "...new inline comments" popup on a wiki page and must traverse the whole page to search for them.

This is a key feature for long and/or complex pages, please consider to add it soon.

The plugin mentioned earlier looks good, but I'dd also expect this as part of core functionality of any collaboration tool, any chance that this will get addressed?

This seems like core functionality that's supported on almost every collaboration tool.  Will this be prioritized to address... ever...?

Ideally, a page should have two viewing modes: Collaboration mode, where unresolved comments visible similar to Google Docs, and Stable mode which is a the way it is now.

This feature is critical for moving people from Google Docs to confluence. And that in turn holds up full adoption of JIRA. Incredibly frustrating.

Was there any progress on this request?

Although there was an add-on released last year,  I think this functionality should be a baseline feature of Confluence (Cloud). We use comments as part of our documentation review (questions / answers).  One of the first thing our Confluence users need to do is to look for any unresolved comments (throughout all pages), respond and resolve the comments.

The ideal for our process would be to have a home landing page, in our Confluence Space, that shows all unresolved comments; and, from there, being able to go to each page where those comments are.

For those on Cloud, an addon was recently released that might fit your needs:

            See All Unresolved Comments

Not only can you see how many unresolved inline comments are in a page, but you can also search (run a report) to see all unresolved comments filtered by space and/or commenting user. You can also get an overview that shows just the headings and the commented text, or a listing of all comments and their replies, so you can get a quick overview of what's on any particular page.

I need some sort of macro to list all unresolved comments. Can't we do something like like an "

            {unresolved}

macro that lists all unresolved comments? There is a similar request here: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONF-36602. I would suggest that both requests amount to the same request and thus 27 votes.
