Improve table selection so that it is easier to select a whole row, or whole column to apply formatting (bold, text alignment, heading level etc)

[CONFCLOUD-33572] Select columns or rows in a table to apply formatting

sadness and tears that a feature 80's & 90's in nearly every publishing tool, spreadsheet, or document editing application has still not been added to Confluence as a dropdown or button.  Le'Sigh, this should be an easy win to make happy users of your product.

Specifically looking for colouring alternating rows.

And can the merging of cells be returned?

I was just trying to select e.g. columns 1, 5, 6 and 8, holding the cmd key as in every other single program and I found this. Is basic behaviour, please fix! =)

It's laughable that this is still an issue.

Can't believe this is not standard functionality.  As soon as you want to build a cross section matrix table, you need to individually highlight every cell in the first column to make the entire column bold.  At the very least, when adding a new row (by tabbing), the new row should have the formatting applied to the cell above.

I've been having the simillar issues and have had to manually copy and paste each cell when I want to move a row or column to another row or column. It's just too time consuming and I end up using Microsoft Excel eventually. Please fix.

Hi Atlassian team - as a power user of Confluence this has been wasting a lot of my time. Would appreciate a fix for this or in the least a workaround.

Its disappointing that your review method has left this defect open for so long due to your invisible threshold of engagement required to get your team to review the defect.

I can guarantee you this is a silent defect that frustrates many users every day but isn't raised in volume within these forums because it isn't obviously a defect. It diminishes the utility of confluence and forces use of excel which again harms your value prop.

Tried the new feature "Try the new editing expierence" on my cloud Confluence, and there is no text alignment formatting possible for whole rows neither whole cells.

But formatting the text itself to Bold, Italic,...  works fine for whole rows and cells.
I preferred the Confluence Table over Excel because Excel cant stop formattig stuff by itself and that really annoys me.

The text alignment would be really nice to have, as we now, our eye eats always first.
And for reading big tables, it is a blessing having a smooth table.

Currently, when one has a page with large tables, editing multiple cell values is very tedious (time consuming) as each must be edited one at a time. Ideally, it'd be a simple matter of highlighting the values to be changed, and changing them all with one click. Hopefully this can be improved.

Yes, I face the same problem too ! I can easily select the entire column and click on bullet list to format the entire column in EXCEL, but the same just doesn't work in CONFLUENCE. It's a real shame that CONFLUENCE has left this ticket unresolved for so so long ....

It's a shame that there hasn't been any progress on fixing this issue. My biggest headache with Confluence so far is selecting and modifying data in columns. The only way to do this right now is to cut and paste cells one at a time.

When a column of a table is selected and e.g. the align center button is pressed a line gets added above the table and the cursor moves there. So to change the alignment for a column in a table it is necessary to change each cell individually which is time-consuming. The user really expects to be able to align a whole row or column at once!
