As a product manager, I enter large amounts of data, some of which need to be reordered. Cutting and pasting is time consuming and can disorient me to my table.

How do you not have reordering rows or columns on your tables roadmap? It's insane you can't do this basic function.

And a prime reason why teams are using tools like Notion and Confluence decidedly feels like something from 2012 (because it pretty much is).

I happen to stumble into here thinking that surely I'm missing the obvious.  The recommended approach by the project manager is not working for me.  I too am amongst the thousand(s?) shaking their heads. 

Amazing that Jira Backlogs allow drag and drop and confluence cant do it. I'm in SharePoint now for most stuff anyway.

I've given up on having this feature implemented before I retire. It's clear that there's no benefit in them implementing it, and actually shipping it to customers. The improvement we're asking for won't improve their quarterly goals, and it won't increase the value of the share, so why would they bother. 

Maybe some day, some hackathon project will make it all the way though its bureaucratic process and make it to customers. Until that they comes, we can still vent about the frustrating situation in here, with all you lovely folks. 

I see 2 Suggestion tickets, this one (25847) and 72097, that appear to be duplicates.

This one has almost a 1,000 votes and the other should be closed and moved into here.

I have Two questions for @Sam Ugulava, the product manager who last commented on this suggestion over a year ago.

1). This is a core feature.  If you're not going to implement this, don't pretend you listen to the customer.  Just shut down this Suggestion facade.  Pretending to listen to the customer and do nothing just ticks us off and makes us look around for another product.

2). Could you please post and explain WHY this feature isn't implemented?  I could perform this function in any spreadsheet 30 years ago.  So far it's been crickets.

Funny how much people struggle with it and Atlassian decides to not implement such a basic feature... come on... There are so many people out there just waiting for that because they don't know there is a "vote" procedure... 

I'm surprised that this wasn't on the roadmap for tables. Since there is already a feature to highlight a row, take it just one step further and allow users to drag and drop that row. Please!

It's crazy that after all this time and with so many votes and comments, this simple feature is still not implemented  

It's always annoying to lose so much common functionality by moving the market leader in Enterprise wikis and experience and ever-growing ignorance of the vendor to customer requests. In honesty, our whole team is looking back to the ease of work with other tools used before the company decision tom use Confluence. And this one is just one of 100 Examples. 

Is this really not a feature yet? That's a huge miss by Atlassian. I'll insert a google sheet.

Google Docs just released fullpage documents like we've had in Confluence. They made this feature default in their first table feature.

So the use case is pretty clear. People want to sort rows in a table by dragging and dropping rows up and down the table

This is easily my biggest need with Confluence.  Creating a project planning page with a table that has dozens of rows, and not being able to do a full re-sort when needed, was so clunky that we switched to using a shared Excel spreadsheet.

How is it possible that this STILL hasn't been implemented? It's actually kind of amazing at this point.

This functionality would be very useful, especially all the while one cannot sort the rows on a the values in a particular column. It's a functionality found in other web-based services like Miro.

Use Case:
We make our PRDs in Confluence for all roadmap-items. We break down large JTBD into manageable peaces in requirement tables where we can link to Jira epics etc.
These are scored and sorted in a table, and when we want to switch place on a row, move something up and down etc as research is done.

Feedback on copy/paste rows up and down:
The expected behaviour is to just grab de row and drag it up or down. Copy pasting rows to change order wasn't even considered as a solution and I didn't even know about that functionality until I joined this forum. ( I actually joined this forum only for the purpose of letting you know that you lack the drag & drop rows in tables )

Use Case:
For a project i'm starting, I'm not to the point of needing Jira tickets yet.  Right now I just want to use Confluence for the planning stage, and create a list/table of items/tasks.   And as I work on the ongoing prioritization, I want the ability to easily drag-drop items to change their position in the list.  Using Cut/Paste to insert is a bit clunky, because we're all spoiled in 2022, and this feels a bit outdated.  I just want to drag-drop to re-order the items, similar to moving tickets in a Jira backlog.

FFS, I think I requested this like over 15 years ago and it still hasn't happened! In regard to the use case, it's painfully obvious: to be able to re-order rows in table. Data in a tabular format needs to be re-ordered or moved around, this is a concept in almost every data table I've ever seen. Whether this is drag & drop, or simply from an overflow menu (e.g., Move Row Up, Move Row Down). This isn't rocket science, just let us move rows up and down without having to do clunky BS like copying & pasting while praying it doesn't mess the rest of the table up.

I never see when they are going to do it.  Atlassian does NOT listen to their customers.  I keep seeing enhancements come through that no one is asking for and provides little benefit to Me.  This basic enhancement would be a large benefit.  I don't understand why simple enhancements can't be incorporated into the product.  @Sam Ugulava - as Product Manager do you have anything to say?  When will this be on the supposed roadmap?  I have never seen anything I've requested over the last 5 years implemented.  Why do you bother having these "Suggestions" if they just go into the black hole?

Every time I have an issue in Confluence, I find a ticket like this one. Every time, it's older than 10 years and has some handwaving explanation. It says a lot about Atlassian.

This desperately needs to be prioritised. I believe that it is base functionality that a user would expect. Using Confluence exclusively as our information platform really makes the lack of this become apparent and painful.

Even just cut-and-paste with keystrokes would be better than the current functionality. Surely that can't be hard.

Yes I know I can create a new destination row and then copy-paste the text and then delete the source row... but these tools are meant to make things simpler and more efficient.

Don't know what's driving the Atlassian feature roadmap, but user needs don't seem to be weighted very highly, unfortunately. This would be such a quick-win for so many of us.

And to be honest, it's a bit sad to have to describe it as a "win" at all! It is such a basic requirement of tables, like being able to resize columns.

The funny (and sad) thing about this whole ordeal is that I was actually contacted by an employee from Atlassian over zoom on November 13th, 2019, where they demoed a prototype of the feature we're requesting, and it looked pretty good. It had drag-n-drop and was pretty slick. I still remember this event, my couch (where I took the call) was on the opposite side in my living room. Actually, I also changed the couch since then, but I digress.

I was pretty happy at the time about them reaching out (due to a comments I made in https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFSERVER-25847), proving that our voices were actually heard! 

But now I'm just sad that nothing has really changed since then. I wonder what happened with the code for that demo.

Same as many other issues. Many simple thinks working on Server version dont exist in Cloud.  And Atlassian want to move our customers to Cloud......

If you cannot implement it one way, why so many thousand developers in Atlassian didnt find another way how to do it?  What about small arrows up and down on left side of row?

I have to use Confluence at work; prefer Notion or Craft personally. I ended up here after googling around trying to figure out what I was missing — I'm shocked that reordering rows in a table isn't supported. This is a tablestakes feature for any modern text editing application, imo.

The Earth will be devoured by the Sun by the time the scrum team at Atlassian starts working on this ticket. And all because their own wiki table rows can't be reordered!

The highest-voted issue in the Confluence Cloud backlog, Rename Space Key, has 855 votes and was opened in 2004! It was, at least, updated more recently than this one, which is 11th in the backlog by customer votes...

Has the ability to move table rows up and down seriously sat untouched in your backlog for 3+ years? OMFG, if I were paying for Confluence, I wouldn't pay another cent until this is addressed. What single table or spreadsheet app doesn't let you reorder rows FFS?

It's a table for crying out loud. Basic spreadsheets have this functionality but their tables don't.

Seems like they don't care to compete with their competitors and capture more users.

+1, a lot of feedback I've passed to Atlassian for my team seems to be pointless when old simple features don't get any attention from their Product/Dev teams. It also reduces my faith in them to address the other issues raised, and reduces their credibility and my ability to advocate for them internally within my org.

I would think software companies would be embarrassed to have such old suggestions remain public for decades on end. It creates a feeling of hopelessness among customers.

You changed the description on 26JAN22 (per history), yet the 'box' indicates 26 January 2021, additionally you indicated w/your update "This feature is not in our short-term roadmap, but we will work to see how we can move this feature into our future roadmaps" however status shows In Progress.  So I'm curious what that actual status of this item is that has been opened since 2012.  It would be a huge benefit. 

The ability to drag rows of data up and down a table seems to be a very obvious feature which is missing.  I want to use Confluence to collaborate on priorities and status ranks - the ability to drag a row to the top would make this use case workable.

How do you suggest one to prioritize rows in Confluence? It seems like a must have for product managers at least. And we're a few PMs using Confluence I'd imagine? Please make this happen, it's possible in all other tables/lists with columns I've seen except in Confluence

This is why I don't like managing tables and roadmaps by Confluence. I'd use Notion instead. C'mon Atlassian, do something to save my colleague's time.

I'd also like to bump this feature up. Seems like it'd been a long time since it's first been requested.

I've seen some folks on my team struggle with this in particular since they expect this functionality out of Confluence (after all, other entities can be dragged and rearranged easily), and then struggle with the shortcuts to add extra rows/columns so they can cut/paste content where they want it. The amount of time this takes really adds up if you work with a lot of table content, and every click and keyboard tap eats into our team's patience. Please implement this.

@Arun - My work-around has been to select the rows you want to move with the row header on the left and cut.  Go to where you want to move them and add however many rows you cut, then select the first cell and paste.

I really need this feature so badly! The order of Bug Stages in a Jira table are not logical, how can I change that? Any other work-arounds possible for now?

no updates in over a year.  This type of drag and drop function is nothing new, as far as the technology to do it.  It is so disappointing more attention isn't paid to these issues.

The more I use the new editor, the more i dislike/hate it.  Yeah, pretty strong.  Why Atlassian chose to break something that was quite good is beyond me.  Classic example of not listening to their users and forcing us to follow some programmers dream of how we should work...

Just ran into the need for this today. Would love to have a drag-and-drop re-order for rows and columns.

I'd love to have drag and drop. Right now I have to go to jump to Google Docs if I want to prioritize rows with a group, for example.

Cutting and pasting as currently executed isn't sufficient. The requirement to create new rows first in which to paste is inefficient. If we could actually cut rows and then paste new rows and the cut content, that would work.

I agree that dragging across long tables can be awkward, especially with the typically unpredictable scrolling behavior at the top or bottom of the page. For small tables though, drag and drop would still be very useful.

The ability to select one or more rows and use hotkeys (like command/control+up/down) to move rows up and down quickly would be great as well.

The more I use confluence, the more I think what's there is fine - you can cut a row, create a new row and paste it. and it works well. I think drag and drop isn't as useful as I once thought. 

Drag and drop can be awkward in long tables. It might be easier to make moving rows available only after row numbers have been turned on and then allow the user to specify the row number to move a selected row into, much like the the ordering of picklists in custom Jira fields. We would just need a way to overwrite the row number to cause it to move to its new location.

this would be a very helpful addition.  If you do it, consider allowing the table to be automatically reordered based on a column sort rather than forcing manual drag/drop.

Thanks, @billy Bogardus is the Google doc searchable data? My concern with using the Google doc integration the content won't be searchable, most often we find that searching is the most effective way to find related pages in Confluence.

PS: I don't like Google docs and just wish Confluence would prioritize this feature so we don't have to use another program for what I consider is the expected functionality within a table.

There are a few reviews complaining about having to reconnect google docs periodically but I think that issue has been fixed. It has been working great for almost two weeks now.

Without this, working with tables is just SO painful. Hope it will be here soon.
