The highest-voted issue in the Confluence Cloud backlog, Rename Space Key, has 855 votes and was opened in 2004! It was, at least, updated more recently than this one, which is 11th in the backlog by customer votes...

Has the ability to move table rows up and down seriously sat untouched in your backlog for 3+ years? OMFG, if I were paying for Confluence, I wouldn't pay another cent until this is addressed. What single table or spreadsheet app doesn't let you reorder rows FFS?

I'd rather use Notion but our org uses Confluence.

I have to waste my time reorganizing tables because they lack such basic features like moving rows.

It's a table for crying out loud. Basic spreadsheets have this functionality but their tables don't.

Seems like they don't care to compete with their competitors and capture more users.

+1, a lot of feedback I've passed to Atlassian for my team seems to be pointless when old simple features don't get any attention from their Product/Dev teams. It also reduces my faith in them to address the other issues raised, and reduces their credibility and my ability to advocate for them internally within my org.

I would think software companies would be embarrassed to have such old suggestions remain public for decades on end. It creates a feeling of hopelessness among customers.

Considering this issue was first identified TEN YEARS ago, it really makes one wonder how effective this form of product feedback is.

You changed the description on 26JAN22 (per history), yet the 'box' indicates 26 January 2021, additionally you indicated w/your update "This feature is not in our short-term roadmap, but we will work to see how we can move this feature into our future roadmaps" however status shows In Progress.  So I'm curious what that actual status of this item is that has been opened since 2012.  It would be a huge benefit. 

The ability to drag rows of data up and down a table seems to be a very obvious feature which is missing.  I want to use Confluence to collaborate on priorities and status ranks - the ability to drag a row to the top would make this use case workable.

How do you suggest one to prioritize rows in Confluence? It seems like a must have for product managers at least. And we're a few PMs using Confluence I'd imagine? Please make this happen, it's possible in all other tables/lists with columns I've seen except in Confluence

This is why I don't like managing tables and roadmaps by Confluence. I'd use Notion instead. C'mon Atlassian, do something to save my colleague's time.

I'd also like to bump this feature up. Seems like it'd been a long time since it's first been requested.

I've seen some folks on my team struggle with this in particular since they expect this functionality out of Confluence (after all, other entities can be dragged and rearranged easily), and then struggle with the shortcuts to add extra rows/columns so they can cut/paste content where they want it. The amount of time this takes really adds up if you work with a lot of table content, and every click and keyboard tap eats into our team's patience. Please implement this.

My first response to this topic was back in 2016. That's 5 years ago! I wonder if I'll have to wait 5 more years.

@Arun - My work-around has been to select the rows you want to move with the row header on the left and cut.  Go to where you want to move them and add however many rows you cut, then select the first cell and paste.

I really need this feature so badly! The order of Bug Stages in a Jira table are not logical, how can I change that? Any other work-arounds possible for now?

no updates in over a year.  This type of drag and drop function is nothing new, as far as the technology to do it.  It is so disappointing more attention isn't paid to these issues.

The more I use the new editor, the more i dislike/hate it.  Yeah, pretty strong.  Why Atlassian chose to break something that was quite good is beyond me.  Classic example of not listening to their users and forcing us to follow some programmers dream of how we should work...

Just ran into the need for this today. Would love to have a drag-and-drop re-order for rows and columns.

I'd love to have drag and drop. Right now I have to go to jump to Google Docs if I want to prioritize rows with a group, for example.

Cutting and pasting as currently executed isn't sufficient. The requirement to create new rows first in which to paste is inefficient. If we could actually cut rows and then paste new rows and the cut content, that would work.

I agree that dragging across long tables can be awkward, especially with the typically unpredictable scrolling behavior at the top or bottom of the page. For small tables though, drag and drop would still be very useful.

The ability to select one or more rows and use hotkeys (like command/control+up/down) to move rows up and down quickly would be great as well.

The more I use confluence, the more I think what's there is fine - you can cut a row, create a new row and paste it. and it works well. I think drag and drop isn't as useful as I once thought. 

Drag and drop can be awkward in long tables. It might be easier to make moving rows available only after row numbers have been turned on and then allow the user to specify the row number to move a selected row into, much like the the ordering of picklists in custom Jira fields. We would just need a way to overwrite the row number to cause it to move to its new location.

+1 this is so inconvenient for large/long tables. Columns should be included too!

this would be a very helpful addition.  If you do it, consider allowing the table to be automatically reordered based on a column sort rather than forcing manual drag/drop.

Thanks, @billy Bogardus is the Google doc searchable data? My concern with using the Google doc integration the content won't be searchable, most often we find that searching is the most effective way to find related pages in Confluence.

PS: I don't like Google docs and just wish Confluence would prioritize this feature so we don't have to use another program for what I consider is the expected functionality within a table.

There are a few reviews complaining about having to reconnect google docs periodically but I think that issue has been fixed. It has been working great for almost two weeks now.

Without this, working with tables is just SO painful. Hope it will be here soon.

1. moving multiple selected rows/columns

I have given up on Atlassian addressing this most basic and every day need - there are not even shortcuts for cutting and pasting table rows on Mac - makes prioritisation (the basics of product management) the most arduous task ever.

We have moved to Coda, which I am finding the most amazing wiki from a UX point of view, and they have the most amazing fully featured inline tables you can ever imagine - it's truly a killer feature.

If you want a wiki with decent tables - that allows you to make your own plugins, integrate with Jira, has amazing templates, check out Coda. Confluence are just not listening.

This is now on our roadmap as part of our short to medium term backlog. We'll absolutely keep everyone posted once this launches.

The new editing should at a minimum include the same functions as the previous version. Being able to move rows/columns is a necessary. 

I was able to re-order some columns in a table using Excel as a workaround.

1. Select the table in Confluence by clicking the corner of the table, and copying to my clipboard.
2. Paste the table into a clean Excel spreadsheet.
3. I moved the columns as desired while holding down the SHIFT key and using this procedure: https://www.ablebits.com/office-addins-blog/2014/01/23/swap-excel-columns/
4. I then copied the table in Excel, and pasted it on top of the table in Confluence, replacing the data.

At least make the cut and paste row shortcuts work on Mac for Cloud version !! Seriously it's killing us.   Number one reason to move to another tool for POs right now - we re-prioritise all day long!! 

when i use the cut/paste workaround, i lose cell alignment. things that were center aligned pre-cut are left aligned post-paste.

I don't know that I'd call this a basic feature, but it's a nice to have. Considering though, I think it's a power move. And as such, you likely need to do this quickly, and potentially to a number of rows, where the method of drag/drop might be tedious. I think it should be keystroke commands first, and a drag/drop interaction could be the +1 extra guest to the Christmas party.

unbelievable that we have to ask for such a basic feature, and then wait 4 years before it gets implemented, if it even gets implemented. 

I guess doubling your pricing was easier? 

+1 if realized with multirow select & move/reorder. Maybe also for jira subtasks.... Thats what customers would expect to work faster.

I would argue that having UI buttons to move a table rows up/down, like those for adding and removing table rows/columns, would be even less error prone and probably easier to get implemented.

Anyhow, would love to have this feature, too.

+1 it would also be really great if you could do this between two different tables of the same format. We have a few different tables of something like done, in progress, archived, etc. All have the same column headers (constantly cutting and pasting, the table cut/paste feature seems to often not work, and manually cutting and pasting sometimes has it's own problems). Drag and drop without even opening the page for edit would be simply awesome for the user!

Is there a similar Suggestion for supporting this feature in JIRA?

The feature of moving table rows is implemented in new Confluence in another way and is quite convenient.
Use ctrl+shift+X and ctrl+shit+V to cut and paste rows. By that you don't need to select the whole row: just put cursor in some cell of it.

Ditto - this feature would REALLY make a difference!

I just want to throw my vote in the hat.. I'd love to see this enhancement completed. It'd greatly improve my UX with tables. I often cut-paste rows, which is error-prone and tedious. Thanks!
