I don't like that different software doesn't always work well with Mac. What options are there to solve such problems?

Original: When clicking the button 'Edit in Office', e.g. to edit an excel file, the excel window opened is empty. Looking at https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Installing+the+Firefox+Add-On+for+the+Office+Connector it seems that Mac should be supported?
