It would be nice to able to comment on status updates, like on Facebook, Friendfeed and other places. As it is now, there is no way to interact with another user's status updates.

            [CONFCLOUD-16043] Comment on status updates

            Hi There,
We've recently made the (hard) decision to remove status updates from the product. I'm closing this feature request to set expectations with customers.

Please see links and discussion here CONF-38253 for all the detail.

It would be nice to like and comment on these statuses to make them more useful within the community.

I hope this feature is implemented without any other add-on.
Of course I'm also interested in Microblogging add-on and I'm going to join the test.

If you don't want to wait for Atlassian, try our new Microblogging for Confluence add-on:

@Ole: Both features you request (@mentions and replies) are part of the microblogging plugin for Confluence which is in alpha mode atm. Feel free to join the testing team: http://seibert.biz/microblogforconfluence

I found this, however its not compatible with version 4.x (which is what our company uses).

Wonder if it would be of use to anyone here who wanted to give it a try.

The nature of our work in Grundfos as a pump manufacturing company a lot of spaces are confidential and secret and the only way to communicate across is actually Status Updates!
You're not allowed to share pages or comment in a lot of spaces.
But as an Admin I can see that 2 or more spaces are discussing the same problems and really should exchange ideas. I can only tell them to open up for other employees but they are largely reluctant to that idea
At the same time they tell me that they would reply to a Status Updates that includes @mentions and a relevant idea or professional question!
This makes me think that Status Updates should have a much stronger role to play in Confluence.
            Features needed:
            @mentions in Status Updates
Possible to reply with new @mentions for adding more people to the conversation

I sent a message to Atlassian via their 'contact us' page. A member of their presales team said that implementing this functionality is not on their current roadmap. Given that this feature request has been sitting here since the middle of 2009 and no one from Atlassian has even made a comment, I also asked if anyone actually looks at these things. He said that their management team is putting a renewed effort to 'clean up' and update existing feature requests. I guess we'll see. Personally I think that this feature would be extremely valuable. The status update feature is pretty much useless without it. No one uses it, and I don't want the macro on the dashboard because people will expect to be able to reply to any status they see.

Any conclusions from Atlassian? Assign? Won't fix or....what's the status?

It would be very nice to be able to forward and comment on status updates with @mentions. Also a Like-button would add to the social intereaction.
In addition a dot@mention like in Twitter where the small dot in .@mentions will go the person mentioned and all his/her followers.
So status updates should have some relations to the network/follower concept - more or less like in Twitter.
