The title kinda says it call. Im not sure how easy it would be to do the import, unless you were to take it all and put it into a single page (converting into confluence-style code) and allow the user to split it up if he/she wishes.

The export would be much simpler and far more benificial to people in companies like our where managers prefer to pass word documents around attached to emails, but techies / developers prefer to edit things centrally.

I envisage the export working the same way that an export to PDF does, just to a Word document.

            [CONFSERVER-928] Microsoft Word import

I recognize that the "live" integration only works on Windows at present. But it also appears I can't import a Word doc from a Mac? If so – "tragic" is one word that comes to mind Can anyone confirm that even the import only works on Windows?

This is fixed with the release of the Office Connector, a free plugin for Confluence. You can install it through the plugin repository or directly from here:

            http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/CONFEXT/Office+Connector+plugin

It supports Confluence versions 2.3 and later. Documentation for doing a Word document import is here:

For more info on the other features and benefits of the Office Connector, see:

This can probably be closed now that the Office connector is in place, allowing you to import, edit, and export to Word. Thoughts?

That's great news! When will the source become available?

            Agnes,

Thanks. Unfortunately, Confluence/TinyMCE did a terrible job handing copy-paste from Word 2007. Word code was interspersed everywhere in the paste.

            Aren,

You can try copying and pasting word fragments into Confluence's Rich text editor. The editor does attempt to 'clean up' word formatting although I'm not quite sure how good it's support is.

            Agnes.

I would be fine with a special paste button that is just for pasting Word documents. The paste would clean up as it pastes from Word. I've seen this in a CMS.

For those of you monitoring this issue, http://www.stevemiller.net/puretext/ can be a workaround, but it will require to to reapply formatting. However, it's often easier to reapply formatting than it is to clean up Word formatting!

            Hi guys,

I'm afraid this issue hasn't been scheduled for a release yet. It's the usual story of priorities and this particular issue is still waiting to bubble to the top. Please be assured that it has not been ignored and that we do re-evaluate the priority of our issues regularly.

            Cheers,
            Agnes.

I too am in a position where adoption is hindered by the lack of an Atlassian solution. It seems like a significant omission of functionality as compared to other products. I'm also a little surprised and disappointed that this topic hasn't been addressed for more than 6 months by someone from Atlassian. I haven't evaluated the third party solutions entirely because, frankly, as good as those solutions might be, I start to feel "nickel-and-dimed" when I have to pay for a function that seems so fundamental. (Reminds me of Salesforce.com, which can be good and bad.)
