this is a feature that certain web based editors have implemented (gmail for example). Basically, just want to execute a save when users use standard keyboard shortcuts. Don't want to trigger the "Save as HTML" dialog...

It seems like most power users will be using the Wiki Markup mode. In Wiki Markup mode, CTRL-S does not work

This is addressed in 3.4. If you have focus inside the editor then ctrl+s (or cmd+s on OSX) will save the page. Same goes for comments.

Thanks for the suggestion, Ryan. I've clarified the summary a bit. Note that we already support browser access keys, which are documented here:

As you point out above, providing native shortcuts which override the browser ones – to make, for example, Ctrl-S save the wiki content on Windows – is a different issue to providing access keys.

not sure what you mean. I use windows, and firefox normally saves the current html page when i use Ctrl-S. But, GMail (a web application) overrides the firefox behaviour, and does what the majority of users expect (saves the current document). These conventions are important to users transitioning from desktop applications to rich web applications.

Users of outlook are used to using Ctrl-S to save their in progress email, and Gmail does a great job making their application intuitive to those users.

Users of microsoft word are used to using Ctrl-S to save their current document, and Confluence has been my "word processor" now for quite some time.

IMHO the reason is that Ctrl+S is ALSO used in most windows browsers.

But this (your request) can be a part of more global feature - customizeable shortcuts.

Alt+S may be "standard" for mac, but Ctrl+S is used for nearly all windows applications. even GMail intercepts the Ctrl+S to save a draft of my email.

Do you mean saving your changes with shortcut?

            Is it Alt+S bad for u ?
