• We collect Confluence feedback from various sources, and we evaluate what we've collected when planning our product roadmap. To understand how this piece of feedback will be reviewed, see our Implementation of New Features Policy.

NOTE: This suggestion is for Confluence Server. Using Confluence Cloud? See the corresponding suggestion.

To help us bring you new Confluence Server versions faster, we are considering only providing 64-bit installers. Confluence 5.10 would be the last Confluence release to provide a 32-bit installer.

If you installed Confluence using the 32-bit installer on a 64-bit operating system, you will be able to upgrade using the 64-bit installer.

If you are not able to use the 64-bit installer we'd love to hear from you to better understand how this change would impact you. Please comment on this issue to provide details of your situation for consideration.

Atlassian Update as of 1 September 2016

Thank you for your input on this issue. The have decided that we will proceed with removing 32-bit installer from 6.0. If you are using a 32-bit operating system, it will still be possible to install/upgrade via the ZIP and TAR.GZ archives, however without the convenience of an installer.

      Regards,

[CONFSERVER-42817] Planned deprecation of 32-bit installers

Hi heimi, you can still run Confluence on a 32 bit Linux system, we just don't provide an installer anymore. You can follow the instructions on https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Upgrading+Confluence+Manually to upgrade to Confluence 6.0.x.   However, be sure to check out the Confluence 6.0 upgrade notes, as there are some additional memory requirements that will affect you.

I've done migration from 32 to 64 linux system in testing environment.

You need to install or use 64 system and proceed with installing of same confluence version that you already have in production but for 64 architecture.

Then stop both Confluence, remove $Home directory on new server and copy there $Home from 32 system.

If you use database on same host then install database on 64 system too, make dump from 32 system and restore it on 64.

If you have changes in setenv.sh or web.xml from $Install directory, then copy those changes to files on new server.

Then start Confluence on new 64 server.

After that you can download 6.x 64bit installer and upgrade your 5.10.x.

            Hope this help.

I run Confluence on a 32bit Ubuntu Linus on a hosted environment. I have limited ressources on this server, so far Confluence runs finde with 2GB of RAM on a 32bit Linus. I am stuck now on a 5.10.x system. This is really a pain.

@Adam Barnes, 32bit CentOS is still very much alive. You just have to scroll down to the next section in https://wiki.centos.org/Download to find it.

I'm setting up Confluence for my department and is considering 32bit CentOS as well. I see no need to use a 64bit unless Confluence decided to increase their minimum memory requirement to 3GB or 4GB..

            Please keep 32bit installer.

What is the way to move current installation from 32-bit OS to 64-bit?
            Should i follow these steps?

            • remember current Confluence version, let's say 5.9.3.
            • backup current confluence database in XML from Backup & Restore section
            • stop Confluence and backup Attachments folder from HOME directory
            • install new 64-bit server
            • proceed with Confluence installation by using same 5.9.3 version but for 64-bit
            • after getting new blank Confluence up and running go to Backup & Restore section and restore database there
            • stop new confluence and paste Attachments folder.
            • start confluence and then download last confluence installation for 64-bit OS and proceed with upgrade
Please confirm if this is a right way.

Our Confluence is running on an old blade, with CPU 32 bits, please maintain the 32bits version.

Hi ppo, thanks for confirming. Please note that the ZIP and TAR.GZ archives will still be available which can be used to deploy on a 32-bit OS. I also note that CentOS appear to no longer have a 32-bit download from 7.x
