      Improvement

Lock the top bar (also incorrectly - in Confluence parlance - referred to by users as menu bar or navigation bar or header) for continuous access to menus, navigation buttons, search field, etc.

      Current Status

The top bar is not fixed and thus menus, navigation buttons, etc. are no longer immediately accessible when vertically scrolling to read content.

      Use Case

If I am reading a comment and want to view another page (either simultaneously in another window or separately in another tab) without losing my current place, I need direct and constant access to the top bar. Otherwise, by scrolling up or using shortcuts to access the top navigation bar, my current location in the page is lost and I must scroll down again to the previous location.
      Typical example:
While reading the comments on a page, you find one that you are sure was discussed in a meeting, the notes of which are in another Space. The Home or Pos1 key will generally take you back to the top of a page, while the shortcut GG puts the focus in the search field. Unfortunately, all of these cause you to lose your position on the current page. As such, you can not use the top bar components (buttons, search field, etc) to open another browser tab/window without losing the current page position. This is particularly inconvenient for quickly viewing two or more Confluence pages simultaneously.

[CONFSERVER-38746] Lock top bar (menu / navigation)

This is one of the most annoying features of the new Confluence version.
Having to scroll back to the top of the page, so that the Top Bar reappears, every time I want to add a section is very time consuming.
Please lock it in place while in edit mode.

Just to add that we're seeing the top bar being 'sticky' in some spaces and not in others, and none of them use the Documentation theme. We're on v5.10.8.

Sorry, not an Atlassian admin... Can't update the issue. Are you using any css and/or html/javascript custom modification on your pages/spaces? This might cause this feature not working. I suggest that you contact Atlassian support & discuss this internally with them. They will check, if it's a bug in Confluence or some sort of misconfiguration.

Thank you for clarifying. Then please update the current issue resolution and Fix Version.

For our 5.10.4 version, for some pages the fixed header is indeed working but for others it isn't. The space for which it is not working is not using the documentation theme. I will create a separate ticket for this problem.

I will also create a separate JIRA issue for having this implemented in JIRA as well.

            I refer to:

Edit a page, without losing your place

No more having to spot the same typo twice! Confluence will now keep you in the same spot when you move between viewing and editing a page (sometimes referred to as 'in-place' editing). Also, to make sure the tools you need are always at your fingertips, the page data (breadcrumbs, restrictions, and attachments) and tools now appear as soon as you start to scroll up, meaning no scrolling all the way to the top of the page.

            Less scroll, more win.

This also includes, that when you scroll down the navigation bar at the top is always visible. When you start scrolling up just a little bit the page action bar (Edit, Share,...) is displayed.

This is NOT working when using the documentation theme in a space.

Your link takes me to the whole release notes. Can you also include an anchor in text? Maybe I'm missing this released feature that I can't seem to find as working in our version anyway.

The issues created in the JIRA bug tracking project JRA-27758 and JRA-21963 are Closed and cannot be voted for anymore....I saw suggestions there to vote for these two CONF issues instead, hoping that someone will hear us....

Both JIRA and Confluence have the same problem. It's a common sense user interface feature that it is currently lacking and making user experience sloppy.

How come Atlassian's JIRA in which I am now writing has this feature while the JIRA we are paying for and currently using (JIRA 7.2) doesn't?
