• We collect Confluence feedback from various sources, and we evaluate what we've collected when planning our product roadmap. To understand how this piece of feedback will be reviewed, see our Implementation of New Features Policy.

As part of our work to make Confluence simpler and easier to use, we've decided to remove the Status Updates feature. This includes the ability to:

      • update your status
      • see other people's status via their profile or the User Status List macro.

Our research tells us that this feature isn't very widely used, and we believe HipChat gives your team much better ways to share their status.

[CONFSERVER-38253] Plans to remove status updates

Resolving as done as Status updates have been removed since Confluence 5.9.

Note, the primary reason for removing this was due to lack of use. Fundamentally, Confluence was not the platform where people reported their 'status'. Naturally everyone on this ticket are the very people whom use this functionality, so we appreciate that this was not the case for you. Whilst we indicate HipChat as an alternative to this functionality, you are welcome to use an instant messaging platform of your choice. We offer an IM Presence macro to show the status of users from a number of IM applications in Confluence.

            Hi Atlassian,

Do you have any feedback at all around this reported bug as per Tom Busby's comment above?

            Many thanks

            Hi Atlassian

We have found an issue with this removal of the user status functionality. A client using Confluence 6.0.6 was having an issue where a page that had a lot of calls to the user profile macro caused the page to load very slowly. We tracked this down to the macro querying the content table to find the  user status page which now no longer exists. When there are a few users to do this for it takes a while to come back after timeouts.

We have worked around this by creating an index in the database

            CREATE INDEX c_contenttype_idx on CONTENT (CONTENTTYPE);

Not sure if this is fixed in later versions of Confluence but exists in 6.0.6 and we also tested in 6.1.2 which also has the issue.

            Kind Regards

            Tom Busby

Any experiences with workarounds, user macros or plugins to repplace this functionality?

Would be great to know what you've done to replace the status updates (besides hipchat, which is not an option for us!)

For us (along with a lot of large companies out there), HipChat is forbidden because the lawyers and security guys don't want another chat system that they have to monitor. I understand wanting to cross-sell, but pushing HipChat is a pain.

This feature is a key feature of Confluence in our environment. In our cas, there will no further upgrade of Confluence be don if this feature is removed. Even if we've got HipChat for free this is not an option for us, since we use a different chat software.

Just noticed this in the End of Support Announcements. I am very disappointed - we rely on this feature for our users to quickly communicate notable things company wide. Please reconsider.

Pls provide integration with Microsoft Lync, there must be lots of your customers who have this in use.

We have created a microblogging add-on for Confluence: https://marketplace.atlassian.com/plugins/net.seibertmedia.plugin.confluence.microblog - It tries to address the issue, that status updates in twitter or facebook address. Maybe that is useful for some of you.

This is a really poor idea that we find highly disappointing.

The removal of this very useful feature is unnecessary and degrades the value of Confluence to our organisation.
