When you enter a column of dates in a table in Confluence 5.5 in the format of MM/DD/YY they sort correctly. If you enter them using the date-picker (or whatever you call it - type // in a field) they do not sort correctly. See attached asc.png and desc.png as an example.

            [CONFSERVER-34002] Dates aren't sorted correctly

Couldn't agree more with @George Gooding - if you use the built-in lozenge date type to enter dates, then it ought to sort by date not text - really poor by Altassian

Hello everybody, it seems to be, that if you are using f.e. a European format, that it still does not work.
            (dd/mm/yyyy)

Any solutions or workaround (not change format)

I'm also amazed that this does not work properly with dates. I had written dates as YYYY-MM-DD (which unfortunately is very odd way to write dates in Norwegian, because the day and month are opposite from Norwegian notation), but changed to the built-in date lozenge type, which does not work. If the system allows me to create date type data, then sorting should work for that. Otherwise sorting is basically useless when it comes to dates.

            Should be definitely a Bug!

Another vote from me, thanks. My users are used to dd/mm/yyyy dates, and asking them to enter yyyy/mm/dd (which I find much more logical, but anyway… ) is doing their heads in.

I am just voting that this is important for us too, I was directed here from a support request I raised regarding the same thing. For now I have instructed our users not to use the date picker in tables, and always write dates textually in reverse order e.g. YYYY-MM-DD to ensure that sorting works, but this is going to be annoying for them as everyone had already started using the date picker dates.

Any priority that Atlassian can put on this would be great, tables with dates in are very common on a Wiki, especially if aiming for Confluence to be used for project management / recording purposes.

// Select a Date is such a nice feature of confluence - needs to be sortable in a table - please - a vote from me

I added a link to CONF-34225, you can vote for that JIRA as well.

why is it an improvement anyway? I think it is a BUG.

Please fix this, I've just asked everyone to start using // instead of writing dates long hand (and variably every time).
