Separate Global Template permissions from Confluence Admin rights

    • We collect Confluence feedback from various sources, and we evaluate what we've collected when planning our product roadmap. To understand how this piece of feedback will be reviewed, see our Implementation of New Features Policy.

      NOTE: This suggestion is for Confluence Server. Using Confluence Cloud? See the corresponding suggestion.

      The task of creating and maintaining templates across a large enterprise is not going to be the exclusive responsibility of a Confluence Administrator. This aspect of Knowledge Management can occur within a very different set of users. However, currently the only way to provide permissions to work with Global Templates is to provide Confluence Admin rights, and give those users the keys to the kingdom.

      Separating the Global Template access rights from the Confluence Admin would be more suitable. Being able to select users or groups, and delegate them Global Template rights piecemeal, would be a much more satisfactory resolution.

            [CONFSERVER-27488] Separate Global Template permissions from Confluence Admin rights

            Just add the feature already.

            OK, here I go providing global user and site adminstration capabilities to an engineer so they can update a global template with changes per their development work.

            Does this seem right?

            Hi Ted, unfortunately I get a "

            {include}

            konnte nicht gerendert werden" (include could not be rendered. it also says something like page or link not found...) if i try to include a common page into a template. So whats the trick?

            A win:win approach is to store the template content as an ordinary page, and then use an IncludePage macro to bring it into the Global template (or any template).

            It's a win:win because you have the full range of permissions available to the page and you have an easy reference copy of the template content than anyone can view.

            A simple email would be a great start: sherif at atlassian dot com.

            I'de love to hear about what you use these templates for, how we could make them better, and examples of your templates? If you've got time, I can demo to you want we are working on for the next release as it relates very closely.

            Thank you Sherif. I searched for this issue before I created it but could not find it.

            I am happy to provide input on how we use templates. What is the best way for me to relay that information?

            Thanks for the feedback, Stephanie. I've already got an issue for this one. We are tracking it here: CONF-7909. You may want to watch/comment/vote to stay updated.

            Also, I'd be interested to hear what you use Templates for in Confluence? Sounds like you use it a lot... We are thinking of making some improvements to them in the roadmap. Would you be interested in doing a customer interview? sherif at atlassian dot com.
