Hi everyone,
This is Jacqui from the Confluence team. I'm pleased to let you know that we have released support for image captions in the Confluence Data Center 8.6 release.
With image captions, you can make complex screenshots in your Confluence wiki easier to understand and remark on interesting pictures in your blog posts. Simply select the image in the editor, type your caption, and select Enter to insert it. Now all you have to do is come up with a good caption…

Kind regards,

It would be nice to be able to caption images in some way. Currently, if you display and center an image, the only way I can think to get a caption-like thing on it is to use a user macro to wrap the caption in, e.g., <span class="caption">...</span> or something similar, but this disallows Confluence markup.
Maybe just
!image.ext|caption=<markup>!
