Generated content in notification mail is in the language of the user who edited the page

As an English language user, put a watch on a page containing the recently-updated macro.

As a German language user, edit the page.

The email received by the first user will still contain some German content - namely the title and the time since update string.

We are still experiencing this problem running version 5.1.3.

Our user is based in Brussels, his default language is English yet the notification emails we receive when he comments or attaches files get sent to us in German. (German email jpg attached)

Please advise on what can be done so we receive English notification emails instead

            Hi abhalla,

No, this issue doesn't cover what you're seeing. This issue is about when the included content from the page doesn't get rendered into the appropriate language. E.g. macros in the page. In your case it's the actual notification that's being rendered in the commenter's language.

This is more like CONF-23946, which was fixed in 4.1.3. Might have broken again or might be slightly different. Please raise a new issue.

I came across another instance where the email notification for a comment edit was in the sender's locale (seen with CAC, running 4.3.1). I assume this issue covers what I'm seeing.

The case Don has reported about attachment types will be addressed in CONF-23946

I think this has been fixed by the work on CONFDEV-3038. Well specifically Matt's comment. I will confirm with Daniel.

Yeah, this is quite a fundamental flaw with how we generate emails. We render the page content once, using the locale of the "sender" (the person who performed the change), then send that content to all recipients. This means that any page content (including the version comment) that is internationalised will be displayed in the wrong language.

Fixing this would incur a performance impact on email notifications, since we'd need to render them at least once per locale, possibly once per recipient.

Not sure if this is the same bug, but I just saw the comment label generated as "Kommentar" when the sender uses German.

I have a feeling this might have been fixed. Moving to needs-verification.
