When a single source line has both covered and non-covered parts of code, both IntelliJ and Eclipse IDEs can correctly highlight background with a per-character precision.

However, this feature is not available in HTML report. In case of partial coverage, the whole line will be marked red (it's a limitation of our current velocity templates). Pop-up when hovered cursor over given line is fine and informs about partial coverage.
