Problem
Sandbox sites currently only support one-time backups. Scheduled (daily/weekly) backups are restricted to production sites. This forces customers to manually trigger backups for their sandbox environments, which is unsustainable for enterprises that maintain multiple non-prod sites and require consistent backup coverage across all environments.
Customer Impact
Enterprise customers use sandbox sites as persistent dev/test environments and need the same backup reliability they get on production. Without scheduling support, maintaining daily backups requires manual intervention or custom scripting via the Backup Management API - neither of which meets enterprise compliance and operational standards.
Current Behavior
Production sites: support daily, weekly, and one-time backups ✅
Sandbox sites: support one-time backups only ❌
Expected Behavior
Sandbox sites should support the same scheduled (daily/weekly) backup options available to production sites.
Optional workarounds
Using the backup management REST API to trigger backups periodically https://developer.atlassian.com/cloud/backup-management-apis/rest/api-group-public/
