Problem Definition
The Data Transfer tool currently runs a "Groups with the same names exist on the destination" check for all migrations, including those where the source and destination sites belong to the same Atlassian Organization.
With Centralized User Management (Vortex) enabled, groups are shared across all sites within the same Org by design. This makes the group name check redundant and unnecessary for intra-org migrations.
Suggested Solution
Skip the "Groups with the same names exist on the destination" validation when the source and destination sites are hosted within the same Atlassian Organization.
Why this is important
- Faster migrations — Eliminating a redundant check reduces overall migration run time.
- Improved reliability — Removes a potential failure point that could surface misleading or unexpected errors during pre-migration validation.
- Better alignment with platform design — Reflects the intended behavior of Centralized User Management, where group sharing across sites within the same Org is expected and supported.
