Problem:

Currently, the ability to view and manage release bundles (and release tracks) in Atlassian Cloud is restricted to organization admins.

Site admins, who are responsible for managing users, permissions, and site-level configurations, do not have access to view or monitor release bundles unless they are also granted org admin permissions.

This limitation creates a gap in visibility for site admins, who are often the first point of contact for end users and are responsible for operational readiness. Without access to release bundle information, site admins cannot:

• Proactively communicate upcoming changes to their users

• Prepare for scheduled updates or feature rollouts

• Coordinate support and training activities around planned releases

Granting org admin permissions to all site admins is not always feasible or desirable due to security and governance concerns.

 

Proposed Solution:
Expand the visibility of release bundles and release tracks to include site admins, in addition to org admins. This could be implemented as:

• Read-only access for site admins to view release bundles and schedules

• Optional permission that org admins can grant to specific site admins

• A new role or permission set specifically for release management visibility

Benefits:

• Improves operational readiness and communication

• Reduces the administrative burden on org admins

• Enhances the ability of site admins to support their users and manage change effectively

Who Would Benefit:

• Site admins responsible for day-to-day management of Atlassian Cloud sites

• End users who rely on timely communication about product changes

• Organizations with strict separation of duties between org and site admins
