      Summary

Customers would like the ability to restore Atlassian Cloud products from backup files that they have uploaded or managed in their own S3 buckets, even if those backups were not originally created by Atlassian’s built-in backup tools. This would provide greater flexibility and control for organizations that manage their own backup and retention strategies outside of Atlassian’s automated backup system.

      Current Limitation

Atlassian Cloud currently only supports restores from backups created and managed through Atlassian’s official backup tools, even when using a connected S3 bucket. Backups uploaded or managed independently in S3 cannot be restored.

This limitation is prohibitive for organizations with strict data management, compliance, or disaster recovery requirements and may limit some customers' adoption of Atlassian Cloud.

      Request

Add support for restoring Atlassian Cloud sites from customer-managed S3 backups, including those not created by Atlassian’s backup system.
