Summary
After the recent changes changes to migration being moved to Atlassian Admin, Atlassian now requires the migrator to be an org admin to access admin.atlassian.com for their Atlassian organization.
Current Behavior
Larger enterprise customers often structure their organizations in a way that restricts org admin access to a select few individuals. This can create challenges when an internal admin is needed to perform data migrations. The process, which should be relatively straightforward, can become cumbersome due to the need to find an org admin willing and able to perform the migration. This additional layer of complexity can lead to friction and delays, as org admins may need to develop new processes to feel comfortable migrating data for internal teams they may not be familiar with.
Requested Behavior
Allow org admins to temporarily elevate a user's permissions to perform migrations between a selected list of sites within the organization. This temporary elevation would limit the scope of the user's permissions, ensuring security while enabling teams to proceed with their data migrations and consolidations without unnecessary delays.
Desired Outcome
By implementing this feature, Atlassian would:
- Reduce friction and delays in the migration process for larger enterprise customers.
- Allow internal teams to manage their data migrations more efficiently.
- Maintain security by limiting the scope of temporary permissions to specific migration tasks.
This enhancement would streamline the migration process, making it more accessible and manageable for enterprise customers while maintaining the necessary security controls.
