Currently, all the Atlassian traffic between the user device and the Atlassian Cloud services runs over HTTPS. It's also possible to setup an IP Allow list on the site instance, providing an additional layer of security.

However, for customers with sensitive data in their Bitbucket instances, these measures may not be sufficient. Despite the encryption offered by HTTPS, data still has to travel through the public Internet to reach Atlassian Cloud services, posing potential security risks. Thus, a more secure, private connection between their internal network and Atlassian Cloud may be necessary.

This request is particularly relevant for organizations in sectors with strict data protection regulations, such as healthcare, financial services, and government.

By implementing a private link, all data could be kept within a secure, private network, significantly reducing the risk of data interception and enhancing the overall security of data transmission. This feature would provide an added layer of security for sensitive data, giving customers greater confidence in the security of their data transfers.
