Stash Hipchat integration plugin reports no connection

The Stash-Hipchat integration works, rooms get listed in the stash hipchat plugin, stash notification are send to hipchat, but the status shows as "Not Connected",

Both servers are behind an apache reverse proxy in order to enabled SSL, with redirects from HTTP to HTTPS.

Expected result:
The Stash-HipChat plugin should say Connected, it it couldn't it should properly log the reason/error.
