A user can edit the commit message when merging a pull request

    • We collect Bitbucket feedback from various sources, and we evaluate what we've collected when planning our product roadmap. To understand how this piece of feedback will be reviewed, see our Implementation of New Features Policy.

When merging a pull request, it would be useful to be able to edit the commit message for the pull request merge.

On Bitbucket server 4.11, this issue is still active (why is it closed here ???) ! Nothing has been fixed, and editing just partially the commit message is really not enough. Configure append/prepend message, or at least the whole message should really be done

"A user can edit the commit message when merging a pull request"
"Fixed": user can't edit the message at all, just append to it...

Would make more sense if instead of appending to the message you could prepend to it, or have a setting for append/prepend.
I hope BSERV-2894 and/or BSERV-8384 could be implemented some day.

I was wondering that too (edit the actual commit message).

Also, I was wondering if there was a way to access that new feature through the Atlassian SDK. By that, I mean do a kind of "merge check" when the merge window is open and the user can edit that commit message, like described in my question here

@Roger_Barnes, we are using Bitbucket Server 4.6+ and are only able to add to the commit message, but not edit the pre-defined commit message which seems to be the spirit of this request. Is there a way to edit the entire message, including the Bitbucket generated summary line?

Any update on this? Currently Pull Request adds the latest commit message from FromRef as default title which gets added to pull request commit message, nothing changes even if the pull request title is edited before merge.

As a workaround for people who need absolute control over the merge log messages, users with push access to the target branch can merge the PR source branch at the command line, push and stash will close the pull request as an "external merge".

It's a bit of a hack, but I use it occasionally to bypass restrictions on pull requests when meeting them is... inconvenient
