Atlassian status as of November 2023 2022

      Hi everyone,

Thanks for your feedback, passion, and advocacy for this suggestion. We would love to add paths to project/repositories in Bitbucket Data Center. However, we made a decision that this improvement is the wrong direction for our product. We remain committed to being an open company, whether it's with regards to feature requests or bugs in our software.

So if we are not going to implement this feature in Bitbucket Data Center, what are we doing instead? We remain committed to helping software teams deliver high quality software faster in an increasingly competitive and changing world. We believe that great developer tools are a key element of modern software development in the hands of good teams with smart processes. To that end, we've made improvements already and are planning to work in the following areas that help with problems teams face now:

      • Innovations that increase developer productivity and reduce complexity despite an ever evolving technology landscape.
      • Optimisations to performance that provide a more powerful, scalable, enterprise-grade Data Center experience
      • Enhancements to security that provide teams with more controls and transparency to support their organisation’s security posture

For up to date information on what specific features are coming soon on our roadmap and planned timelines please visit our roadmap.

If we’ve missed the opportunity to address this request and your comments properly when you submitted it, we sincerely apologise. We remain committed to being an open company, whether it's with regards to feature requests or bugs in our software. We will strive to answer product management questions and feature requests sooner, frequently, publicly, and more decisively.

If you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact me directly.

      Cheers,

      Sarah Bolt

Hi Sten, I have this up and running on a test instance. Pretty fast workflow !

So, we like the Project/repo layout. That is good for us. However we would like to add a path element as well.

      Example:

      Project/pathname/repo.

[BSERV-2468] Add paths to project/repo structure

+1  The feature would be really beneficial to handle AOSP projects.

And also Bitbucket try to support the mirroring feature based on AOSP mirror manifest which would be different topic but related

            Please allow following structure

            project/project.../project/repository

            , like in a folderstructure.

Please implement the rule, that repository names must be unique only within the same subproject, not globally.

I suspect that will not happen in the near future? I mean the ticket was created in 2012.

            related to BSERV-2727?

I'd settle for it being a server side, visual change only. Slugs and clone paths still based on the root of the project, but users can organize them in folders in the UI.

How about allowing the repository name to be: dir1/dir2/reponame.git? I presume (maybe too much) that windows' git tools would be able to handle that.

            Or sub-projects?

Or maybe Atlassian prefers the flat earth approach?

We have two (2) work-arounds for this situation:

            1. use a setup script to clone into the hierarchy.
            2. we have created separate projects for those repos in it, and adjusted the submodules as needed.

Adding +1 to this. We routinely setup projects with more than 10 repos. It would do wonders in terms of organisation if subfolders were supported under a project (even if only a single level).

Any chance we could get an update on when this feature might be added?

+1. Big win for groups who manage localization projects and language dictionaries for instance. Provides a better mechanism for keeping proper naming conventions instead of coercing names to fit into a space.

We are a small business and after 1 year of using stash/bit bucket we already have 17 projects with an average of 4 repos each. This feature is critical for maintaining our repos as move into the future.
