Issue Summary
Elasticsearch support was deprecated in 8.x and removed in 9.x. The documentation found at https://confluence.atlassian.com/bitbucketserver094/install-and-configure-a-remote-elasticsearch-server-1489802994.html doesn't give any indication that Elasticsearch must not be used for any 9.x version
Steps to Reproduce
- Go to any 9.x version of this document https://confluence.atlassian.com/bitbucketserver094/install-and-configure-a-remote-elasticsearch-server-1489802994.html
Expected Results
A bold warning that this document is no longer valid once you upgrade to 9.0 or higher
Actual Results
This document discusses how Elasticsearch, up to 7.17.16, can still be configured and used by Bitbucket. No indication using Elasticsearch will generate errors in the logs, and it is unlikely to function
The below exception is thrown in the xxxxxxx.log file:
Caused by: com.atlassian.bitbucket.internal.search.indexing.exceptions.IndexException: Unsupported search version Elasticsearch 7.17.16. Unable to continue, operator intervention is required. 2025-03-11 16:19:27,136 ERROR [I/O dispatcher 13] c.a.b.i.s.c.s.t.DefaultSearchConnectionTester Connected to an unsupported search server version: Elasticsearch 7.17.16
Workaround
Use Elasticsearch is the only available option
