Availability Zone aware routing for Mesh requests

      BSERV-13270 asks for support for deploying Mesh nodes into multiple availability zones. This will ensure replicas are placed in such a way that high availability is ensured such that if an availability zone fails the system will remain operational.

      Deploying into multiple availability zones in AWS however incurs additional expense. Data transfer within the same Availability Zone is free, however data transfer between availability zones incurs a per byte (well per gigabyte) based charge.

      This ticket suggests to:

      • Make Bitbucket WebApp nodes aware of what availability zone they are in; and
      • Make the control plane route requests with some affinity for local (i.e. in the same AZ) Mesh nodes.
