It would be nice to have some sort of icon/dropdown on the top bar that indicates you have notifications and can show/link to them (something like stack exchange or facebook notifications)

In my normal usage I never go click on my account icon and I don't want them all to go to my email. This results in me not realizing people have sent messages to me for weeks.
