Workspace invitations are not received by users

      We've added support for removing email addresses from the suppression list automatically when an invitation is resent. In the event that an invitation is not received by an intended recipient on first attempt, a resend should trigger a deliverable invitation. We've updated our support docs to reflect any changes in behavior with regards to troubleshooting email invitation deliverability issues. We also provide a link to the same support page from our "Add members" popups for convenience.

      Issue Summary

      To invite new users to a workspace admins must send an invitation* email. Sometimes the email cannot be delivered, e.g. because the address is mistyped, or not yet active, or because the recipient's email service rejected it as spam.

      In these failure cases Bitbucket just shows that an invitation has been sent; there's no indication that the email could not in fact be sent. The admin will usually just try again a few times, then contact support to find out what's going wrong.

      This is to comply with GDPR privacy regulations.

      Steps to Reproduce

      1. Invite someone to a workspace using an email address that's inactive.
      2. Check the invitation status after a while.

      Expected Results

      Invitation status shows that something went wrong and the invitation could not be sent.

      Actual Results

      Invitation status shows that it's still waiting to be accepted by the recipient, even though no invitation was actually sent.
