Original title "Improvements for code search"

Searching our repositories for something like "foo-bar" returned unexpected results because the "-" was removed and the search became "foo bar". After playing around with my query for a bit I had to read to the very end of the documentation to understand what was going on.

A couple of suggestions:
Source code commonly has symbols in it. It would make the search functionality vastly more useful if those symbols could be preserved and searched for.

If symbols are removed from a query, indicate in the results what the search became and link to the documentation about how searching works. This would cut down on
