Recently on tardigrade the plan using IDEA git repository has swollen up to 12GB. I couldn't investigate closely as we needed recover that 12GB disk space, but I think it was the .git/pack directory which was full of index/pack files. This could be due to shallow clone strategy, this could be normal behavior - I don't know. Anyway the clean IDEA repository (git://git.jetbrains.org/idea/community.git) takes no more than 2GB disk space, so it might be worth investigating this issue.
