Bamboo installation for a 64-bit Windows using Zip Archive causes various problems

XMLWordPrintable

      Issue Summary

Root to the 64-bit Windows issues (which can e.g. be Bamboo not starting as service) is that the Windows Zip Archive contains the Bamboo 32-bit binaries only.

      Improvement Suggestion

I see basically three options here of what can de done:

      1. Skip shipping Zip Archive as there exist the 32-bit and the 64-bit Windows Installers on Bamboo Download Archives
      2. Keep going to provide a Zip Archive but then
        • change it's content to 64-bit binaries as 64-bit Windows Server versions should he much more common than 32-bit Windows,
        • clearly document that it contains 32-bit or 64-bit binaries e.g. in Installing Bamboo on Windows and preferably already make that clear on the aforementioned link
      3. Start delivering a 32-bit and a 64-bit Zip Archive for each new Bamboo release. By that it would be similar to the Windows Installers existing as a 32-bit and a 64-bit variant.

      Workaround

Use either the 32-bit or the 64-bit Windows Installer for any fresh Bamboo installation or for a Bamboo upgrade on Windows depending on the Windows version Bamboo shall ruh on.
